This DIY body pillow cover adds a touch of warmth to the bedroom setup with its fluffy, soft texture, complemented by elegant golden pillows.

I was searching for a body pillow cover for my DIY pillows that I made a few years ago. Since the measurements for my pillows did not match the standard body pillow covers in most stores, I decided to make my own. I wanted this DIY pillow cover to be budget-friendly, so I thought of using a throw from 5Below as my fabric instead of buying fabric from Joann. I knew I wanted a fuzzy white pillow cover, so I searched 5Below for a throw blanket and found one for $5. This throw is a sherpa material and one thing I have learned about this material is that the softness does not last long term. The way this material looks and feels on the first day is completely different after many washes. Now I tend to avoid sherpa materials altogether. But overall, the result of this DIY body pillow was great. This body pillow is durable, simple, and easy to make, and I would make it again with a different fabric. Check out my YouTube video below to see how I made this body pillow cover and keep scrolling to see the materials and measurements for this DIY project.

This is a beginner-friendly project.

Here are the materials for the DIY project, a super luxe Sherpa blanket, a measuring tape, sewing pins, scissors, a rotary cutter, and a cutting mat with a ruler for precision crafting.

Measurements

Body cover length- 59.5in, 1-inch seam allowance. 58.5 in with seam allowance.

Body cover width- 16.5in, 1-inch seam allowance. 15.5 with seam allowance.

Two pieces of fabric for envelope closure measurements

33 in, 1 inch for seam allowance total and half an inch seam allowance for both pieces of fabric to equal 1 inch by 16.5 in

I had to add extra fabric to the 26-inch fabric to make it 33 inches since the length of the blanket is 59.5 inches. I added 7 inches of fabric to the 26-inch fabric.

Envelope closure measurements

32 in by 16 in

Final body cover measurements

59 in by 15 in

Note: I originally cut the fabric 17 inches in width and adjusted the quilting pins to 16 inches before sewing the pillow cover. So, the final width measure would be 15 inches.

Process

Step 1

First, I examined the fabric for any imperfections, and I did find some imperfections, so I had to adjust the final product. I adjusted the measurements.

Step 2

Use the ruler to measure 16 inches in height and cut the fabric horizontally from one end to the other. Move the ruler along the fabric to keep the cut straight.

A ruler measuring 16 inches is placed next to a piece of white fabric, illustrating its height.

Step 3

Next, lay the second piece of fabric on top of the first piece that was just cut. Then cut the second piece of fabric at the 16-inch mark. I used the first piece of fabric as my guide.

Step 4

Use rotary scissors to fix any crooked lines in the fabric.

Step 5

Cut one piece of the fabric at the 33-inch width mark to have two pieces of fabric for the envelope closure.

Step 6

Now, I have two pieces of fabric for the envelope closure. One fabric is 33 inches wide, and the other piece is 26 inches wide.

Step 7

I noticed the 26-inch fabric was too short for the closure, so I had to add two 7 by 8-inch fabrics to match the other larger piece since the closure would be an envelope closure.

Step 8

Use quilt pins to attach the additional fabric and then sew on the fabric with a sewing machine.

Two small fabric extensions are pinned to the end of the project ready for sewing.

Step 9

Cut off any excess fabric if necessary.

Step 10

Next, grab the two pieces of fabric for the envelope closure and lay one piece over the other. The closure should measure 5 inches in height.

Step 11

Add quilting pins all around the edge of the fabric leaving an inch seam allowance.

Step 12

Sew the edge of the fabric with the sewing machine and cut off any excess fabric so the body cover will lay flat along the edges.

Step 13

Flip the fabric inside out and the body cover is complete!
