Hello everyone, and welcome to another week. This week, let’s focus on evaluating our hearts and motives. God cares deeply about our hearts, not our performance.
Scripture: But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 NIV
As human beings, we are concerned about how we show up in the world. We want all the accolades, praise, and success. We work hard to attain wealth, influence, and golden reputations. We appear successful because of what we have acquired through hard work. People are moved and drawn to successful people. But God is not like everyone else. He isn’t moved by our diligence and perfect performances that lead to success. God is focused on our hearts. We can do everything God told us to do, grow our influence, and reach millions of people, but if our hearts are hard and unclean, there’s a problem. God wants us to be successful and receive all the good plans He has for us, but what’s more important to Him is that we have pure hearts. If our motives and heart postures are not clean before God, it is time to seek God for help. God can purify our hearts; all we must do is ask. We can’t work our way into being in right standing with God. We are seen as righteous and blameless before God through consecration and purification of our hearts. So, today let’s ask God to evaluate our hearts and give us clean hearts. (Psalm 51:10; 139:23-24)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being merciful and showing me mercy. I ask that you evaluate my heart today and remove any hardness and impurity. Create in me a clean heart, Lord, and make me blameless before you. Amen.
