Love the Lord your God

Hello everyone, and welcome to a new week. This week, we will focus on Mark 12:30, where God gives the first commandment for His children: to love God.

Scripture: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:30

God’s first commandment is love. God is love, and His first commandment to us is love. It seems easy to adhere to this scripture, but what does it mean to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength? Why did God list those specific aspects? The Hebrew meanings for heart, soul, and mind are the same. It means thoughts, feelings, and imagination. Strength means might and ability. The Lord is saying that we should love Him in every way possible. With our affections, imaginations, force, understanding, spirit, desires, appetites, and passions, we should love God. In our way of thinking, we should love God. In our hearts and characters, we should love God. With our living being, we should love God. Let us take this scripture and apply it to our lives this week. Ask God to help you love Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for loving and saving us. Help me, Holy Spirit, to love the Lord with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. Lord, show me how to love You the way You called us to. Amen.

Did this Bible verse help you today? What did you learn from this scripture? How can you apply Mark 12:30 to your life this week?
