A hand holds a red apple against a black background. The arm is dressed in a sheer, white, polka-dot fabric, creating an elegant and mysterious mood.
The enemy plans to get you to doubt God.

May 6, 2025

Welcome to a new week. Have you ever had the enemy plant seeds of doubt in your mind? How did you respond? Did you talk back and respond to his questions? If so, you are not alone. Eve in Genesis 3:1 did the same thing. Let's dive deeper.

Scripture: Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” Genesis 3:1-3 NIV

It’s important to know the characteristics of a person to understand the motives behind their actions and words. Satan is evil and deceitful; therefore, his plans will only lead to your downfall, no matter how alluring they seem. There is no good Satan. It doesn’t matter what Satan says, he is never on your side. He’s not trying to help you or give you your greatest desire because he cares about your happiness; he’s trying to destroy you. Eve made a mistake in Genesis 3; she engaged in conversation with the serpent. The moment you hear the enemy question what God said, know that his purpose is to make you doubt God. Thus, the best thing to do when the enemy asks, “Did God really say?” It is to respond with the Word of God like Jesus did in the wilderness in Matthew 4. Do not respond thinking you can outsmart Satan, who has existed for thousands of years and knows more about you than you realize. Respond with the Word of God that is powerful, never fails, and is sharper than any two-edged sword, like it says in Hebrews 4:12. Study the Bible to understand your authority and power through Jesus to be ready when the enemy comes with his deceptive tactics.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for showing us in Your Word how to win the battle against the enemy. Give me a desire to study the Bible to gain understanding, develop my faith, and know my rights as a child of God. Amen.

Did this Bible verse help you today? What did you learn from this scripture? How can you apply Genesis 3:1-3 to your life this week?
