Don't Miss Your Promise Land: A Devotional on Numbers 14

Thank you, Jesus, for a new week. God has many wonderful promises for us, but we must believe in God and expect to receive those promises. If not, we could miss the promised land like the children of Israel.
Scripture: How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. Numbers 14:27, 30
God is faithful and true. He doesn’t lie or say anything He doesn’t mean. Everything He speaks comes to pass in His timing. It’s all about time and seasons. God may reveal a promise to you, but it won’t manifest until 10 years later. We must hold on and keep the faith, trusting in our God. Along the journey, He shows Himself to us so we can experience His faithfulness and know He always keeps His word. His promises always prove true (Psalm 18:30) and will happen; however, it is possible to miss the promise, as with the children of Israel. They complained and murmured against God, Moses, and Aaron. The problem wasn’t God or the length of time they were in the wilderness. God kept His Word to them, and they had proof of that with the parting of the Red Sea (Numbers 14:22). God was always with them and provided for them. The problem was that the children of Israel still had Egypt in them, even though they physically weren’t in Egypt anymore. They were still in bondage and longed to return to their bondage in Egypt (Numbers 14:3-4). They complained against God about ten times, and then God said they wouldn’t get the promise. Not because they complained a few times, but what the complaining revealed- they didn’t believe God (Numbers 14:11). God can’t give you the promise if you don’t believe Him.
How do we make it to our promised land? We must believe God and have faith in Him by putting our faith in Him alone (James 1:6). We can ask God for more faith, belief, and hope. He’ll give us whatever we need; all we must do is ask (Matthew 21:22; Romans 8:32). He wants us to receive His promises and to believe Him because He can be trusted.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your promises. Thank you for being a God who keeps His word. Help me to trust and believe in You and not complain. Help me to remember who You are before I think about complaining. Amen.
