When was the last time you sat silently and asked yourself a series of questions? That sounds weird, but I chose to do it. One day, I caught myself repeating what I read or heard on social media. I thought to myself, do I have my own opinions? This was a sign that I was spending significant time on social media. I didn’t want to parrot social media content and opinions from people in the comment sections of videos anymore. So, I turned off social media and the TV and put my phone down. I then began asking myself these questions to understand myself and what brings me joy.
Self-Reflection Questions
What do you like?
How do you like to spend your time?
What does not bring you joy?
What outfits make you feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident?
What outfits make you feel uncomfortable?
What brings you joy?
What is a relaxing activity for you?
What’s a productive day for you?
What activities do you love and want to do more that’s not online?

There were more questions I asked, but I’ll stop here for now. I answered these questions truthfully, and most of my answers didn’t match what I was repeating from social media. I was surprised and relieved because, honestly, I didn’t want to be a person that followed whatever was trending on social media. I accepted that my answers didn’t match what’s considered popular, and I embraced this new journey of focusing on what brings me joy from the inside out.

I started buying quality items, taking solo trips, reading, writing, dancing, developing a self-care routine, and spending time with God more. As a result, I am more joyful and intentional with myself and my time. It made me more confident, content, and positive, which I love. This all started with self-reflection and asking questions; now, I have joy that I didn’t realize was possible or that I was missing.

I highly encourage you to self-reflect and embrace what brings you joy from the inside out. You will not regret it. You can start with the questions listed here or create new ones.
